I got told about this course by a previous student at Centre Stage. I couldn’t hear enough about it, so had to get Judy Neame’s details to get in touch. After the warmest welcome when visiting the studio, I was sold to join the upcoming course that began in October 2016.
It has been my dream not only by being able to work within the TV, film & theatre industry but at a time now in my life in finding a course suitable enough that I can still run my business from home and care for my son. It has worked perfect and I have had endless help and support after studio hours when I have needed it.

Not only can I highly recommend how much is covered and how much I have learnt within the course duration but the amount of experience I have been put forward on by Judy Neame herself on film sets and photo shoots.  I have gained now an IMDb account from the work I have done and promised future works with film producers and directors once I have qualified.

I am overwhelmed and sad it has come to an end. The calm and relaxed environment Judy has provided for me has done nothing but left me feeling exuberated and confident for my future. I can’t recommend this course highly enough to anyone wanting to aim towards working in the TV, film & theatre industry.

I’m two-thirds of the way through the course and I have honestly enjoyed every minute. Judy is a wonderful teacher with the fantastic mix of vast amounts of knowledge, a fun and entertaining teaching style and a very kind and relaxed nature that instantly makes you feel comfortable and encouraged.

The whole feeling of the studio environment is very friendly and relaxed but you also learn a great deal and get a lot done. One of the main things I have loved about the course is the fact that it really covers everything so that when you finish you have the foundations to follow whichever path you feel suits you best. From my group last year one is planning on going into special effects, one is wanting to go into fashion/editorial work, one is wanting to go into theatre makeup and the other is hoping to go into film so that just shows the variety that this course covers.

The course is 3 days a week which is also great because you can work around the course at the same time, I currently work in a cafe 3 days a week which helps me pay for the course. The course is very hands-on and practical  and every day you really go home feeling like you’ve learnt/achieved something and it’s really quite amazing how quickly your confidence will grow.

All in all the course really gives you the foundations you need to take your career in whichever direction you choose and as long as you are willing to work hard Judy will encourage and help you to achieve your full potential, I would 100% recommend this course.

I came to Center Stage from a performance background, wanting to add hair and makeup to my skill set to offer people.

Prior to it, I already had experience in gothic makeup demonstrations and got the bug for it that way.
It took me years to really find the perfect course that offered everything from period makeup, to special effects and hairstyles and I found it in Judy.

She really understood where I was going with my ambitions and was supportive, yet strict at the same time. I went in there knowing it wasn’t going to be easy, but was not prepared for the sheer vastness of skill and detail involved in everything she taught us to do. It was enriching and enlightening – particularly as it was the perfect mix of theory and practical work. No question was a silly one and I was made to feel welcome every time I went there, plus found myself wanting to push myself out of my comfort zone.

All I can say about this course is if you want something that challenges and excites you at the same time, plus get trained by as far as I’m concerned, the best in the business, then go to Center Stage!

Judy Neame’s constant eye for detail and extremely high BBC standards will really work you hard and push your creativity. Because of her high standards of teaching and giving you the chance to do professional work with her, I’m now getting steady work in Film, Halloween, Proms, Bridal and Hen Party shoots. The next stage is to break more into Stage, Fashion and more Film and Tv.

Media Makeup and Hair Course Review by Lauren Saunders

I started the complete media hair and makeup course in October 2013. I am currently half way through the course but feel I have already gained a much wider knowledge, grown in confidence and have improved my techniques.

The course content is great; we get to learn firsthand as well as understand the history and meaning of each makeup look we create.

We also cover the business side of the industry so which includes business cards, pricing a job, insurance, CV, portfolio and promotion.

Judy encourages us to find work placements and may send us out on placements she has found.

So far I have worked with a fashion magazine, on a fashion show and had experience with professional photographers.

Judy is a great teacher, she has so much experience and is able to answer questions, give advice and shares endless tricks of the trade!

I’m enjoying the course and would recommend it to anyone that wants a career as a Media Makeup and Hair Artist.

This photograph is of a look I created in the studio during the special effects module where I have used a bald cap and prosthetic nose. This character would be great for theatre.

The second image is a futuristic creature showing the technique of eyebrow blocking.

I am currently working on the Centre Stage 8 month course and absolutely love it.

Judy is a brilliant teacher; she is always on hand to help and answer questions, and offers us the best knowledge and advice. Her many years of experience in the industry mean she can share with us everything we will need to know when we finish the course.

The course content is so interesting.  All the techniques we learn are turned into projects/looks, so that we get an idea of the meaning and history behind the make-up as well, and where we may use it in the future.

This photograph is a shot from my first editorial, in which we based the whole look around extravagant false eyelashes. I enjoyed doing this make-up hugely, particularly because I just loved the concept of the hearts falling off the lashes and onto the cheeks.

I’m enjoying my time at Centre Stage so much, and would recommend the course to anyone!

Media Makeup and Hair Course Halloween Project Review by Jasmin Layne

I really enjoyed creating and applying this Halloween makeup, it was the first time we were able to let our mind flow and really let our creativity transfer into a makeup.

I got my inspiration from sugar skulls.  I wanted to include similar shapes and patterns because they add femininity to a edgy Halloween look.

Although it was a makeup for Halloween, I believe it should still be beautiful.

“The course is extremely practical and allows me to develop my skills whilst being encouraged to explore my creativity.”

I started the complete makeup course at Centre Stage in October. Despite only having been on the course for a short time, I already have gained masses of confidence and inspiration. The course is exactly what I needed to develop my skills as a make-up artist.

Judy Neame, the tutor has a professional attitude to her teaching. She is also warm, supportive and inspiring to all the students. The course is extremely practical and allows me to develop my skills whilst being encouraged to explore my creativity.

Judy has the ability to tailor her teaching to the specific needs of each student. I am loving every minute of the Media Makeup and Hair course and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone hoping to embark on a career in makeup.

Our second project on the course was a Halloween inspired theme. The look I developed was alien inspired. I wanted to create a futuristic and outer space look.

Media Make Up And Hair Course Review by Abigail Robinson

“Judy was always willing to help, whether that is to help us get the courage to call up make up companies to get work, or simply help us write our CV or a simple email.  She always had time for each of us.”

What drew me in was the fact that Judy Neame has a lot of experience in makeup and hair and has worked with the BBC and travelled around getting great work with her talent.

She knows exactly what she is doing and how to get there as she has experienced it all, and that’s what you need to help train and get you out there, someone that’s got a huge amount of experience in the industry.

The course was set up with 3 modules, with each module we had to complete a folder on everything we learnt.  By the end of each module our folders were huge, so it was important to keep on top of writing up everything we learnt that day including pictures.

Although this was getting marked for the end exam, these folders are beneficial for ourselves, as little tips Judy says you can easily forget, or specific strategies you learnt that suited you best are easily forgotten.  So keeping these noted down is handy.

On my first day, I was warmly welcomed by Judy who went through everything we will need, how to get it, costs, and any questions we wanted to know.

The girls I met at Centre Stage were lovely and I know we will all keep in contact for many years, as Judy kept a great spirit of us all working as a team, getting us to work with each other, build on each others strengths and weaknesses, making us stronger as individual makeup artists.
We did practical work every studio day, with some mornings taken over by theory work and Judy giving us very helpful tips about the industry etc.

Judy was always willing to help, whether that is to help us get the courage to call up make up companies to get work, or simply help us write our CV or a simple email.  She always had time for each of us.

Any work Judy got hold of she was sure to let us know about it and put forward our CV’s to these companies.  Judy got me my first ‘mother of the groom’ make up, which I am very grateful for.  It was paid work and Judy let me use her studio and was there for extra support if I needed her.

I loved Centre Stage and hated having to leave.  There was so many little things I learnt that I would have never known if I hadn’t have gone to Judy at Centre Stage and meeting the girls there was brilliant.

Makeup and Hair Course Review by Cass Michael

 “brilliantly structured and taught me everything from period hair and make up…  to the extremely modern and up to date hair and make up”

As a photography student with a very keen interest in makeup artistry, ‘Module One’ at ‘Centre Stage Make Up and Hair Studio’ was absolutely perfect for me, and Judy was incredibly helpful with fitting me in to do the course so that I could work it around my studying for my BA Photography.

The course and teaching at Centre Stage was wonderful, I cannot recommend it highly enough! It was brilliantly structured and taught me everything from period hair and make up (Ancient Egyptians through to Victorians) to the extremely modern and up to date hair and make up (make up for HD cameras and Photography, a must have for anyone wanting a career in hair and make up!).

I plan to use my new knowledge and skills to focus mainly on doing as much makeup and I can for photo shoots (my own and others!), as well as hopefully some bridal work.

I had an amazing time studying at Centre Stage, and learnt so much more than I hoped! I am so sad that my time there has come to an end, but I know that Judy’s support will always be there if I need it.
